ORIENT’S ICONIC VISTAS ARE IN DANGER.
HELP SAVE THEM BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.
Southold Town Planning Board – Public Hearing – April 7, 2025 at 5pm
Tuthill Conservation Subdivision
NYS Route 25 “Main Road” Orient, New York
The Orient section in Chapter 5- Community Character of Southold Town’s 2020 Comprehensive Plan lists as the hamlet’s No. 1 goal “Preserve the gateway property east of Latham’s farm stand (scenic vista is important).”
The Conservation Area of the South Dyer section of the Tuthill Subdivision requires special attention and good planning practices to ensure that future generations can cherish what exists today.
CONSERVATION AREA COVENANTS & RESTRICTIONS INVITE DISASTER
The Proposed Covenants & Restrictions Allow for:
Large object storage, including: boats, RVs, classic cars, farm and fishing equipment, etc.
Family non profit and for profit business to be conducted on the property.
Large scale events.
Undefined animal and insect husbandry.
New construction for Agriculture or Aquaculture businesses without guidelines.
Proposed Uses are Too Broad and Must Be Clearly Defined to be Enforceable.
Let Your Voice be Heard and Take the Initiative to Reshape the Covenants & Restrictions to maintain Southold Town’s scenic resources, define maintenance procedures and manage growth.
These stunning open spaces and gateway to Orient and the North Fork are a treasure that must be preserved and maintained for future generations.
OUR GOALS:
Best planning practices, balancing the built and natural environments.
Reshape the Covenants & Restrictions to Preserve Scenic Vistas.
Provide Opportunity for Growth of Farmstand and Aquaculture businesses.
Demonstrate South Dyer’s Residential Building Lots are within the Orient Historic District.
“Farm Road”, not Rackett’s Court, to serve South Dyer’s new building lots and support the Aquaculture business.
